Celebration at school and how we came there / Schulfeier und wie wir hin kamen

Yesterday the son had Christmas celebration at school. The son was playing also a role in the performance they prepared for parents. So we had to prepare to go to city. The circumstances where not the best as it was snowing a lot last days and the weather was very cold.
Last year it started to quickly heavy snowing with no melting period that the car was stuck 3 months up on the hill at our house. But this year I was very careful to bring the car down at time. Or better to say half way down. We agreed with neighbours that we can park on their ground to come easier to the asphalt road. On the last half way down the hill the forest road is in better condition than the part totally up the hill to our house.
It only dont mean that its not an exciting and thrilling driving specially under this circumstances. On this times I am happy to have a lightweight care compared to modern SUV`s.
During the day we prepared us, packed the waste put the chains to the backpack for carrying. We sorted a lot of things under the roof as the last days.
Big concern is also to sort out all cloths with polyester fibres. Just every peace of cloths is spreading parts of the chemical fibre to the room, the air and to the washing water. We changed our mind to cloths the last years specially since we work with natural wool from our sheeps and found here the big advantages.
Before we start the walk downhill we had to feed our animals and pack the waste. The chains for car I also had to carry down. Its usually a walk of 10 minutes. With our little daughter (she is getting 3 years old in 4 months) and loaded backpack in the deep snow it took of course little longer.
Arrived at car we had to put down first a lot of snow. And I started to put the chains on the tires. I just have two chains, thats usually enough for an extra grip. On front weels the chains would be surly better for driving downhill, but there is not enough space for the big chains. Thats why I use them only on back weels.
When it started snowing the neighbour was driving already few times up and down in order to keep the way drivable. He tried it also once without chains but he came up just half way and down the car was sliding very much.
I recognise that I am already little out of training with the chains after long summer. And as I dressed myself nice for the celebration I was not totally happy to lie under the car and handle the rusty chain.
Before driving the big downhill part I stop and check the way. Having a little walk gives me a good feeling for the road. I want to bring my family safely down and in worst case I prefer to go by foot. Once the car starts sliding downhill and have lost the control there is no more big chance to have any influence where you go. This I want to avoid as on the side its going deep down the forrest.
For normal people its quite normal to go to next city for a quick shopping. For us in winter its always an adventure and we have to plan it better and connect all duties for one trip.
When I think today about the driving yesterday I am thankful that all was going good and feel happy that we had our adventure and where successful. I would not like to change it.
Arrived down the asphalt under the hill I have to put the chains away. With chains you can drive only very slowly. My working gloves where already wet and it had -9 degrees. With every touch on the iron the gloves where glued to the iron.
We enjoyed the evening watching the performance and where proud of the son. I am not the real father of the son, but he is part of my life and I am good friend with the father. So we are big patchwork family.
In the evening after celebration we went home. Usual procedure under the hill at the end of asphalt is to be under the car and fix the chains. Looking forward to coming home its all going little quicker, also the temperatures reached already -10 and we where freezing. In the city it was just -6, but as higher we come as colder its getting.
With chains the driving uphill to our neighbours was no problem. We had to pack the shopping and the child and start our walk further uphill true the deep snow to our house. It was very romantic in the darkness to walk in the forest and see the nightsky with stars and moon. And the warm house welcomed us very nicely and we had a good feeling of the day.
- DE: Weihnachtsfeier in der Schule und wie wir dort hin kommen
Gestern hatte der Sohn eine Weihnachtsfeier in seiner Schule. Er spielte dort auch in einen Theaterstück mit das die Schüler für die Eltern vorbereitet haben. Also mussten wir uns für den Ausflug in die Stadt vorbereiten. Die Umstände waren nicht optimal da es die letzten Tage viel geschneit hat und das Wetter sehr kalt ist.
Letztes Jahr hat es auf einmal sehr stark zum schneien angefangen und es war auch keine Tage dabei wo der Schnee weg geschmolzen ist. Daher war das Auto für 3 Monate oben auf dem Berg an Haus eingeschneit. Aber dieses Jahr war ich sehr Vorsichtig und habe das Auto rechtzeitig vom Berg gebracht. Oder besser gesagt auf halber Höhe vom Berg. Wir haben mit den Nachbarn vereinbart das wir auf Ihren Grund parken dürfen damit wir leichter die Asphaltstraße erreichen. Der Weg von den Nachbarn zu uns hoch ist noch schwerer befahrbar als das untere Stück.
Das heißt natürlich nicht das es nicht sehr spannend und aufregend ist im Winter dieses Stück des Waldweges zu befahren. Da bin ich auf jeden Fall froh ein leichteres Auto zu haben wenn man es mit modernen SUV`s vergleicht.
Tagsüber haben wir uns also vorbereitet. D.h. wir haben den Müll zusammen gepackt, die Schneeketten fürs Auto in den Rucksack eingepackt. Die letzten Tage haben wir bei schlechten Wetter etwas auf dem Dachspeicher aussortiert.
Ein Anliegen ist es alle Kleidungsstücke, Bettwäsche etc. mit Polyesterfasern auszusortieren. Jedes Teil davon gibt ständig die chemische Fasern ab die dann im Raum herumfliegen und beim waschen auch in Wasser gehen. Wir haben hier unsere Einstellung sehr geändert, wo allem seit wir die Vorteile von natürlicher Schafwolle für uns entdeckt haben. Und da wir auch eigen Schafe haben liegt das natürlich nahe.
Bevor wir unseren Fußmarsch runter zum Auto starten mussten noch die Tiere gefüttert werden. Voll bepackt mit den Schneeketten, dem Abfall und noch den Schlitten für die Tochter sind wir dann los gegangen. Normalerweise ist es ein Fußweg von 10 Minuten. Mit unserer kleinen Tochter (Sie wird bald 3 Jahre alt) and vollem Rucksack im tiefen Schnee dauert es natürlich etwas länger.
Am Auto angekommen mussten wir erstmals das Auto vom Schnee befreien. Ich habe dan angefangen die Schneeketten über die Reifen zu ziehen. Ich habe nur zwei Ketten, aber das ist normalerweise genug für die extra Haftung im Schnee. Auf den Vorderrädern wären die Ketten beim berg runter fahren sicher noch etwas besser. Aber da die Ketten sehr groß sind kann ich diese nur an den Hinterrädern anbringen.
Als es vor paar Tagen das schneien angefangen hat ist unser Nachbar schon mit dem Auto ein paar mal hoch und runter gefahren um so zu versuchen den Weg etwas frei zu halten. Er ist auch ohne Ketten am Auto den Berg runter gefahren oder besser gesagt gerutscht. Aber ohne Ketten ging es nicht mehr hoch.
Ich merke das ich nach dem langen Sommer etwas aus der Übung bin mit der Handhabung der Ketten. Natürlich habe ich mich auch für die Feier schön angezogen und war dann nicht sehr glücklich so unter dem Auto zu liegen und die rostige Ketten zu fixieren.
Bevor ich den steilen Weg runter fahre steige ich aus und gehe etwas zu Fuß. So bekomme ich ein gutes Gefühl über die Bedingungen. Ich möchte meine Familie ja sicher den Berg herunter bringen. Im schlimmsten Fall müssen wir eben zu Fuß gehen. Wenn man mit dem Auto auf dem Weg ist und es das rutschen Anfängt hat man oft keine Kontrolle mehr einzugreifen oder die Richtung zu bestimmen. Das möchte ich vermeiden, vor allem da es neben dem Weg auch sehr Steil in den Wald runter geht.
Für Jedermann ist es wohl kein Problem einfach mal schnell in die nächste Stadt zum einkaufen zu gehen. Für uns ist das im Winter ein großes Abenteuer und wir müssen das gut planen um alle anstehenden Erledigungen auf einmal zu schaffen.
Wenn ich heute über die Fahrt von gestern nachdenke bin ich dankbar das nichts passiert ist und fühle mich glücklich das Abenteuer gemeistert zu haben. Das möchte ich nicht missen.
Unten am Berg an der Asphaltstraße angekommen müssen die Ketten natürlich wieder abgenommen werden. Mit Ketten kann man nur Schrittgeschwindigkeit fahren. Das Ketten abnehmen mit meinen mittlerweile nassen Arbeitshandschuhen war gar nicht so leicht. Sie sind sofort an den kalten Metall angefroren. Kein Wunder bei -9 Grad.
Die Feier haben wir dann genossen und wir waren alle stolz auf den Sohn. Es ist nicht mein leiblicher Sohn aber er ist auch Teil von unserer Familie. Mit dem Vater bin ich gut befreundet. Wir sind also eine große Patchwork Familie.
Am Abend auf dem Heimweg hatten wir wieder die übliche Prozedur am Ende der Asphaltstraße. Die Ketten müssen wieder auf die Reifen damit wir den Berg zumindest bis zu unseren Nachbarn hoch kommen. Aber mit etwas Vorfreude auf das warme Zuhause geht alles gleich viel schneller, auch wenn die Temperatur mittlerweile auf -10 gesunken ist. In der Stadt waren es nur -6, aber umso höher wir kommen umso kälter wird es.
Das hoch fahren war dann kein Problem. Dann musste nur noch der Einkauf gepackt werden und unsere Tochter auf die Schulter. So machten wir uns dann im dunklen auf durch den tiefen Schnee zu unseren Haus. In der Nacht im Wald ist es sehr romantisch und der Nachthimmel mit den Sternen und Mond einfach wunderschön. Das Haus hat uns dann mit seiner wärme empfangen. Wir hatten ein sehr gutes Gefühl von diesen Tag.
